prayer

After the last piece had come together so well I decided to use the same random technique to a painting previously started.  Again I added the yellow ochre arbitrarily to which I then saw another form developing.  I then defined and enhanced the character with dark siena.  I really love how this piece came together.  I feel as though now that the character has finally been brought to the surface the painting has truly been able to express their story.

After arbitrarily scraping orange paint across the canvas, I noticed this character.  I then developed what I saw by adding the dark Siena color to enhance and define the form.

Grasp of Reality in the Hands of a Fantasy

Pointillism based off of an original sketch.  The day I doodled the basis for this piece, you would have thought I was trying to hide a bar of gold.  I couldn’t get from class to my room fast enough to complete the image my eyes were craving to see.  It’s moments like this that always keep me forever striving.  To feel my creative soul welling inside of me to engage with my sight has become my vice.

Suicide woodcut or more formally known as Reduction woodcuts.  This process is definitely a test of forward thinking and steady hands.  Woodcuts don’t allow much room for error as it is extremely difficult to reattach wood carvings. This particular bleed print that I created, I kept a cartoon edge and only allowed minimal texture in the Dragon’s wings.

This is a dry point copper etch.  A small figure study using a cross hatching technique.

Mezzotint.  This is my favorite print making technique.  The deep velvety black achieved definitely makes the exhausting physical labor that goes into this process worth every second!  This piece is called “Redemption?”

This study was completed before the following drapery painting of the same set up.  I believe drawing to be the foundation of all art.  After completing these still life drawings my painting immediately enhanced along with my printmaking and graphic design projects.  It also developed my eye for  visual balance and structure.

These still life studies helped build basic painting techniques.  They taught me how to look at shapes, shadows, and highlights that I could then carry forward throughout all of my art projects.
